Certification Agreement
Last Updated: June 28, 2026
By taking the Safe Surfer Test and generating or verifying a Certificate of Completion, you acknowledge and agree to the following terms regarding certification.
1. No Professional Accreditation
The Safe Surfer Test is a self-assessment tool designed to evaluate basic safety knowledge. Generating a certificate does not constitute professional accreditation, licensing, or certification by any state, federal, or marine authority. It does not certify that you are safe, capable, or fit to surf the Turnagain Arm.
2. Local Storage and Verification ID
Our verification system uses a client-side hashing algorithm to generate a unique Certificate ID based on your test score and completion timestamp. This ID can be verified via our public verification page to confirm that a user answered the safety test questions. It does not verify the identity of the person taking the test.
3. Prohibited Uses of the Certificate
You agree not to:
- Modify, forge, or alter the text, name, score, or date on a generated certificate.
- Use the certificate to misrepresent your safety qualifications to outfitters, tour operators, rescue organizations, or land managers.
- Attempt to generate a verified certificate by tampering with the browser storage or source code parameters.
4. Right of Revocation
The Initiative reserves the right to suspend or disable verification mechanisms if any abuse, forgery, or malicious testing activity is identified.
Please use the Safe Surfer Certificate in the spirit it is intended—as a personal milestones of your commitment to learning safe practices on Turnagain Arm.
